This is the case of the popular Lagos-Ikorodu expressway.
Lagos-Ikorodu expressway is a major road in Lagos state; it connects the mainland of Lagos to Ikorodu, Island and crosses other major expressways such as Apapa Oworonshoki expressway and Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Along the Ikorodu road are bus stops ; Maryland, Anthony, Obanikoro, Onipanu, Fadeyi and Jibowu. The Mile- 12 Ikorodu BRT expansion road construction in 2013 grants access to Ikorodu and has increased business activities in that area. More people now reside in Imota, Isiu, Liadi, Egbin, Ijede, Igbogbo and Beyeku in Ikorodu.
The Lagos-Ikorodu road was a rustic and an unpaved road before its rehabilitation in 1973. After its dualization in 1993, the road has witnessed other repairs from Ojota Interchange to Ojota Second Pedestrian Bridge and the Service lane inbound Lagos.
Commuters now heave a sigh of relief as they ply the tarred road with convenience although laments the unusual traffic at peak hours of transit.
According to research, the Lagos-Ikorodu road was a desert in 1947 but today, motorable and transits Nigerians tro and fro Lagos.
Notably, the transformation of the road has increased the worth of properties along that corridor . Also, the accessibility of the road to Ikorodu and the Island has influenced the decision of people when choosing accommodation.
Sherif Babatunde, a correspondent at Voice of Nigeria stated that: there’s a growth in business activities along the Ikorodu road because of its prominent exposure to passing traffic.
The Lagos-Ikorodu road houses printing companies , Adebowale Electronics and the expressway also hosts many of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s bus rapid transit stops all the way to Ikorodu.
This added values of Ikorodu road is a gain to investors who purchased land along that corridor forty decades ago. The value of their properties have metamorphosed to hundreds of million naira thereby having a huge return on their investment.
